Changes in Auto Insurance Costs
Starting April 7, Auto Insurance Costs Will Change in Kazakhstan: What You Need to Know
New rules for calculating mandatory auto insurance will soon take effect in Kazakhstan. From now on, the cost will be influenced not only by traffic accidents but also by traffic violations. This innovation is designed to encourage careful driving.
What’s Changing?
Previously, a driver’s insurance class would decrease only if they were at fault in an accident. Now, three new classes — A, M1, and M2 — are being introduced, with increasing multipliers of up to 3.5. This means that persistent violators will see a significant increase in their insurance costs.
Additionally, if a driver commits three or more of the following violations during the term of the insurance contract — speeding by 40 km/h or more, driving into oncoming traffic, or creating a hazardous situation — their insurance class will decrease much more significantly than for drivers who avoid such fines.
Who Benefits from the New Rules?
For drivers who have not been involved in an accident for five years, the cost of insurance will be lower. Meanwhile, for repeat violators and at-fault drivers, insurance will become more expensive.
Important for Moped Owners
Moreover, moped insurance will now be mandatory. Starting April 5, moped owners (category A1) will be required not only to register their vehicles and hold a valid driver’s license but also to have compulsory third-party liability insurance.
